Two Major Tech Innovation Platforms in Industrial Materials Protection Land in TEDA

On February 3, the inauguration ceremony of the Tianjin Branch of the National Scientific Data Center for Material Corrosion and Protection was held in TEDA. The ceremony also celebrates the establishment of the Tianjin Society for Corrosion and Protection. At the event, two high-end tech innovation platforms formally landed in TEDA, effectively filling the gap in specialized services for industrial materials protection in the region and injecting new momentum into the upgrading of advanced manufacturing in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

As a national-level tech innovation platform, the Tianjin Branch of the National Scientific Data Center for Material Corrosion and Protection will establish three service systems: data integration and sharing, collaborative technological breakthroughs, and industrial standards empowerment. It will collaborate with universities, research institutions, and key enterprises to integrate full-chain data resources, including corrosion monitoring, technological R&D, and engineering applications. The platform is committed to bridging the transformation pathway from laboratories to production lines, providing precise data support and customized solutions for key industries such as high-end equipment manufacturing, oil and gas storage and transportation, and marine engineering.

The Tianjin Society for Corrosion and Protection is a municipal-level academic social organization aimed at building an integrated platform for industry, academia, research, and application. The society will focus on addressing corrosion protection challenges in fields such as petrochemicals and marine engineering, carrying out academic exchanges, joint research, talent cultivation, and standard formulation. It will also facilitate in-depth collaboration between the Tianjin Branch and various industrial research institutes to conduct cutting-edge technology discussions and collaborative innovation.

As one of the first national-level development zones, TEDA is home to 201 provincial-level or higher R&D institutions and boasts an R&D investment intensity exceeding 4%. With a solid industrial foundation in high-end manufacturing, oil and gas transportation, and marine engineering, TEDA provides an ideal environment for the two platforms. Additionally, the platforms align closely with TEDA’s goal of building a "4+2+X" future industrial system and creating a pilot zone for future industries, which will vigorously promote the deep integration of innovation and industrial chains.
