Tianjin’s First Automotive Manufacturing Embodied AI Lab Unveiled in TEDA

06-04-2026

Recently, an industry exchange event themed "Smart Chains · Embodied Horizons" was held in TEDA. Focusing on the deep integration of the automotive and embodied AI industries, the event drew over 120 industry experts and enterprise representatives from across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, representing sectors such as vehicle manufacturing, semiconductors, robotics, new materials, and academic research institutions.

During the event, the Automotive Manufacturing Embodied AI Joint Laboratory, the first of its kind in Tianjin, was officially unveiled. Co-founded by the School of Artificial Intelligence at Tianjin University, FAW Tooling Die (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., and the Planning Department and Tianjin Branch of FAW-Volkswagen, the Lab has identified five core research directions: specialized multi-modal perception technology for automotive manufacturing, compliant force and motion control technology for assembly, embodied AI large models and decision algorithms for automotive manufacturing, system integration and engineering of embodied AI, and automotive safety, standards, and multidisciplinary talent cultivation. The Lab is committed to establishing itself as a hub for technological innovation, a platform for key technological breakthroughs, and an engineering validation base for embodied AI in the automotive industry both in Tianjin and nationwide.

With a total industrial output exceeding RMB 600 billion, including nearly RMB 150 billion from the automotive sector and over RMB 13 billion from the embodied AI industry, TEDA hosts a cluster of leading enterprises and provides fertile ground for the cross-industry integration of both sectors. The newly unveiled joint laboratory will be deeply rooted in TEDA’s automotive industry scenarios, focusing on key production processes for technological validation and iteration to support the high-quality development of the regional automotive industry.
