FAW-Volkswagen Tianjin Branch Launches Its First Pure EV Project in TEDA

01-30-2026

On January 28, the launch ceremony for the new model project VW316/9CN_B of FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. Tianjin Branch was held in TEDA. As the first pure electric vehicle model from FAW-Volkswagen Tianjin Branch, the project is expected to complete the body-in-white rollout by the end of 2026 and achieve mass delivery in the second half of 2027. This initiative will significantly drive the high-quality development of the new energy and intelligent connected vehicle industry in TEDA and Tianjin.

In 2025, the TEDA Administrative Commission and FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation memorandum for a new energy vehicle project. According to the memorandum, FAW-Volkswagen will introduce two new energy vehicle models based on Volkswagen Group’s new CMP platform, which are planned to commence official production at FAW-Volkswagen Tianjin Branch in 2027. The recently launched VW316/9CN_B project is one of these models.

To ensure the smooth progress of the project, FAW-Volkswagen Tianjin Branch will undertake the largest-scale renovation in its history, covering four core production processes: stamping, welding, painting, and assembly. Upon completion, the production line will be capable of mass-producing vehicles based on the new CMP platform, enabling the implementation of advanced intelligent driving assistance functions.

In terms of industry chain collaboration, the production of pure electric vehicles will also bring in multiple core component suppliers for batteries, motors, and electronic controls. Currently, FAW-Volkswagen Tianjin Branch already collaborates with 54 local suppliers, accounting for 62% of the total parts supplied. Leveraging Tianjin’s well-established automotive industry chain, FAW-Volkswagen Tianjin Branch will deepen cooperation and coordination with local enterprises, continuously promoting the synergistic development of upstream and downstream industries, and contributing to the formation of a comprehensive new energy vehicle industrial ecosystem in the region.
