FAW-Volkswagen North China Base Rolls off Its One Millionth Vehicle
On August 31, with the completion of a starry blue Tayron GTE, the FAW-Volkswagen North China Base achieved the production milestone of one million vehicles. Established in 2018 in TEDA, this facility stands as Volkswagen Group’s most advanced factory worldwide. Remarkably, it took only five years for the base to reach the goal of producing one million complete vehicles, making it a model for intelligent manufacturing and a benchmark for green ecology. Since its inception, the FAW-Volkswagen North China Base has played a pivotal role in the automotive industry in Tianjin. It has offered employment opportunities for 60,000 people throughout the automotive supply chain, while local suppliers have contributed an impressive 12 billion yuan in production value. This comprehensive support has significantly bolstered the thriving automotive industry in Tianjin.
As the key carrier of Tianjin’s automotive industry, TEDA has been recognized as a National-level Export Base for Cars and Components, as well as one of China’s Earliest Demo Bases for Neo-industrialization. TEDA hosts numerous automotive industry leaders, including FAW-Toyota, FAW-Volkswagen, and Great Wall Motor, along with over 200 parts suppliers and service providers. This has resulted in the formation of a complete automotive industry chain, encompassing vehicle design and development, engines, transmissions, car body and chassis, interior and exterior components, and automotive electronics. In the first half of 2023, TEDA witnessed a production of 378,000 complete vehicles, marking a 4.4% year-on-year increase. The added value in the automotive manufacturing sector also saw a growth of 7%. Particularly noteworthy is the impressive 59.7% increase in the production of new energy vehicles.
