Project Begins Production in TEDA Nangang Industrial Zone

11-18-2024

Recently, the first phase of the desalination and integrated utilization project invested by XIANDA (Tianjin) Seawater Resources Development Co., Ltd. was put into operation in TEDA Nangang Industrial Zone. The first phase includes the construction of five production lines with a daily water production capacity of 150,000 tons, capable of replacing 50 million tons of surface water annually. Currently, four production lines have been put into use, while the fifth line has been installed. The fifth production line serves as a demonstration of fully localized production, utilizing domestically manufactured equipment that matches imported counterparts in all critical performance metrics, achieving technological independence. This marks the first instance of full localization in this field.

The XIANDA desalination project is a key collaborative effort under the “Belt and Road Initiative” between China and Malaysia and is the largest desalination project in northern China. As the main industrial water source for Nangang Industrial Zone, the project will supply water to major initiatives such as Sinopec’s 1.2 million tons/year ethylene project, the Huadian Nangang thermal power project, and the Tianjin Bohai Chemical relocation and transformation project. Upon completion of the first phase, Nangang Industrial Zone will become the first chemical industrial park in China to rely primarily on desalinated seawater.
