Tianjin’s 1st Ultra-LDES Power Station Starts in TEDA

Tianjin TEDA Electric Power Co., Ltd. launched its Smart Energy Long-duration Energy Storage Power Station in TEDA on February 28. This also marks the first ultra-long-duration energy storage (LDES) power station project in Tianjin. With a total investment of 1.6 billion yuan, the project has a total power of 156 megawatts and an installed capacity of about 1,115 megawatt-hours. At full power output, it can supply electricity for about seven consecutive hours. This means it can release 1.17 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per day and provide 388 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to the grid for peak-shaving annually. The project is expected to become operational by the end of this year, which will significantly enhance TEDA’s grid capacity for peak shaving, frequency regulation, and backup power.

As a key component of the regional new electricity system in the future, this long-duration energy storage project plays a crucial role in implementing China’s energy security strategy. It is also a landmark project in TEDA’s energy transition, enhancing the safety, stability, economic efficiency, and demonstrative value of the local power grid. This project will serve as a key driver in advancing energy structure transformation and achieving green, low-carbon development in the region, providing strong support for Tianjin’s green and low-carbon energy transition.
