The 2025 International Forum (TEDA) on Chinese Automotive Industry Development Opens
On September 13, 2025, the 21st International Forum (TEDA) on Chinese Automotive Industry Development commenced in TEDA. The forum was jointly organized by China Automotive Technology & Research Center Co., Ltd., China Society of Automotive Engineers, China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, and China Automotive News, with special support from the TEDA Administrative Commission. Co-organizers included the JAMA, the VDA, China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance, National Big Data Alliance of New Energy Vehicles, China Artificial Intelligence Industry Development Alliance, and the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association. With the theme of “New Momentum, New Chapter, Global Reach”, the forum brought together over a thousand guests, including leaders from national ministries, senior executives of automotive groups, and authoritative experts and scholars. Participants engaged in strategic and forward-looking discussions and dialogues, collectively contributing ideas and suggestions to promote the high-quality development of the automotive industry.
The forum features 18 thematic sessions with highlights in four major aspects: promoting cross-industry integration and innovation, deepening content quality, building platforms for government-enterprise dialogue, and discussing cutting-edge fields. Multiple think tank reports will be released on-site during the forum, along with three ecological special sessions and the release of consensus from four thematic forums, delivering think tank outcomes intensively from multiple perspectives. High-end think tank closed-door meetings provide in-depth insights into frontier technology trends, explore high-end and global development models for the automotive industry, and accelerate technological and industrial deployment in the sector.
The International Forum (TEDA) on Chinese Automotive Industry Development has been successfully held for 20 sessions and is renowned as the “ Barometer of Automotive Industry Development” and the “ Davos of the Automotive Industry.” Over the years, the forum has focused on forward-looking topics in the automotive sector, collaborating with government departments and industry organizations to continuously leverage the leading role of think tanks and support the transformation and upgrading of China's automotive industry.
As a national-level automotive and component export base and one of the first national new industrialization demonstration bases for the automotive industry, TEDA has gathered four leading car manufacturers and over 200 parts and service enterprises, forming a complete automotive industrial chain covering vehicle design and development, engines, transmissions, bodywork, chassis, interior and exterior trims, and automotive electronics. In 2024, the automotive industry output value in TEDA reached RMB 149.89 billion, with 693,500 vehicles produced, accounting for over 85% of Tianjin’s total. In the field of R&D and innovation, multiple domestic and international research institutions, including the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute, FAW Toyota R&D Center, Schaeffler Tianjin R&D Center, and AVL List Technical Center, have established a strong presence here. Additionally, Volkswagen Components R&D Center, Hella Faway, and Nobo Automotive have successively set up R&D operations in TEDA, driving innovation and development in the automotive industry. Meanwhile, TEDA vigorously supports vehicle manufacturers in introducing new models, and accelerates the introduction and cultivation of core component enterprises such as batteries and chips. Through the development the automotive electronics industrial park, we can build a secure, controllable, and more resilient automotive industrial chain.
