How Domestic Waste Turn to Green Resources in Tianjin
Food wrapping paper, used tissues, broken and discarded toys and so forth. Such domestic waste after incineration processing can generate fly ash and other hazardous substances that are extremely harmful to the natural environment and are classified as hazardous waste.
In recent years, domestic waste has been growing fast along with the rapid urbanization in China. In 2021, the amount of urban solid waste collected in China reached 248.69 million tons. Garbage disposal has attracted much attention.
Tianjin attaches great importance to the harmless disposal of garbage and the transformation and upgrading of treatment technology. At present, Tianjin has closed all domestic waste landfills, and is the first in China to realize “zero landfill” of raw domestic waste. All daily domestic waste is incinerated to generate electricity with 100% non-hazardous treatment.
TEDA Environmental Protection has cultivated with enormous efforts in the field of ecological environmental protection. From 2020 to 2022, the scale of its waste disposal has increased from, 5,610 tons to 12,000 tons per day, which is almost a double increase, and the power generation in the three consecutive years 4077 million KWH, an increase of nearly 50 percent year-on-year.
In the past two years after the implementation of the Regulations of Tianjin Municipality on the Administration of Domestic Waste, Tianjin has constantly strengthened the whole china control of “release, collection, transportation and disposal”, with a comprehensive improvement on the level and quality of garbage separation.
In 2023, Tianjin issued the Measures of Tianjin Municipality for Total Emission Control of Key Pollutants (for Trial Implementation), which aims to reduce pollutant emissions, strengthen total pollutant emission control, and lead and promote comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development.
The Development and Reform Commission and the Environmental Protection Bureau of Tianjin have jointly released the Tianjin’s Implementation Plan of Accelerated Construction of Urban Environmental Infrastructure, to promote the development of environmental infrastructure and the infrastructure modernization.
As the fruits of the double harvest of “blue sky, white clouds” and “green transformation” continue to expand, the “green and low-carbon development action” has added a more comfortable background to Tianjin.
Nowadays, Tianjin has been preparing to promote the “zero waste city” green construction campaign, vigorously promote a synergy in reducing pollution and car emissions to explore creating a green highland for the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province, and contribute to the early realization of the “3060” dual carbon strategic goal (carbon dioxide emission peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060).
Recently, Tianjin issued an implementation plan on waste materials recycling system construction, taking green and low-carbon development as the theme and improving the recycling system for waste materials. By 2025, Tianjin will build 1,200 renewable resource recycling outlets and 10 professional and comprehensive green sorting centers to achieve full coverage of renewable resource recycling outlets connected with domestic waste collection and transportation.
In the process of building and cultivating the city and developing commerce and economy, Tianjin has unswervingly and continuously improved the modernization level of governance system and governance capacity. High-end, intelligent and green have become the unique charisma of Tianjin.
