TEDA enterprise the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Tianjin branch said on Tuesday that the daily output of crude oil in Bohai Oilfield, China’s largest offshore crude oil production base, has exceeded 100,000 tonnes, a record high in the oilfield’s nearly 60-year history,.

Founded in 1965, Bohai Oilfield has seen more than 50 operating oil and gas fields and over 200 production facilities established in its domain over the years.

In 2023, crude oil output in Bohai Oilfield increased by nearly 2.3 million tonnes over the previous year, accounting for about 50 percent of the total increase of crude oil output in the country.

According to Zhang Chunsheng, deputy general manager of CNOOC’s Tianjin branch, 100,000 tons of crude oil account for about one-sixth of the country’s daily crude oil output and can meet the weekly demand of a large city with a population of tens of millions.

This plays a significant role in ensuring national energy security, promoting economic development, and meeting people’s daily needs, he said.

The oilfield will continue to increase investment in exploration and development, aiming to achieve 40 million tons of oil and gas production by 2025, he said.
