Tianjin's Trade Growth Driven by Strong Exports

Tianjin's foreign trade continued to expand steadily in 2025, with exports delivering robust momentum.

Customs data show that in the first 10 months, the city's imports and exports were valued at a total of 694.02 billion yuan ($98 billion), a year-on-year increase of 2.7 percent. Exports stood at 360.34 billion yuan, rising 11.8 percent.

The city's foreign trade volumes climbed quarter by quarter. The first quarter recorded 185.34 billion yuan, the second 211.53 billion yuan, and the third surged to 229.84 billion yuan. October maintained the upward trend, with total trade at 67.31 billion yuan, including exports of 35.22 billion yuan, up 9.7 percent.

In the first 10 months, the city's trade with the European Union rose 14.8 percent to 162.55 billion yuan, accounting for 23.4 percent of Tianjin's total. Trade with ASEAN grew 6.6 percent to 88.16 billion yuan. Emerging markets also showed promise: Africa surged 28.4 percent, the Middle East 10.4 percent, and Latin America 2.1 percent. Trade with Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries grew 9.1 percent.

Exports were led by electromechanical products at 240.56 billion yuan, up 12 percent. High-end equipment exports soared 51.2 percent to 59.62 billion yuan. Pharmaceuticals and medical materials jumped 73.9 percent.

On the import side, agricultural goods reached 52.71 billion yuan, while aerospace equipment imports hit 55.19 billion yuan, up 38.8 percent and accounting for 27.1 percent of China's total aerospace imports — ranking first nationwide.
