Tianjin's New Year Holiday Consumption Exceeds 1.3b Yuan

Tianjin's consumer market started the new year with strong momentum, as key commercial enterprises reported total sales of 1.31 billion yuan ($187.68 million) during the threeday New Year holiday, according to the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Commerce.

Anchored by the city's festive campaigns, nearly 200 integrated promotional events boosted spending and enriched the holiday atmosphere.

Across 406 monitored commercial circulation enterprises, total foot traffic reached 9.07 million visits. Average daily sales and customer flow increased 8.9 percent and 7.8 percent, respectively, compared with New Year's Day in 2025, reflecting a steady rise in consumer confidence.

The catering sector saw particularly robust growth. Among 175 monitored restaurant enterprises, revenue jumped 24.1 percent year-on-year, while customer volume rose 17.1 percent. Six agricultural wholesale markets reported transactions exceeding 350 million yuan and more than 50,000 metric tons of traded goods.

Major supermarket chains also performed well, generating 130 million yuan in sales and attracting 761,000 customer visits, up 9.9 percent and 6.9 percent year-on-year, respectively.
