New Comprehensive Building of Novonesis Inaugurated in TEDA

On May 19, Novonesis, a global leader in biological solutions, held the inauguration ceremony for its new comprehensive building project in the TEDA. The Danish Ambassador to China and representatives from the TEDA Administrative Commission gathered to witness this landmark moment. As a pivotal investment in Novonesis’ strategic development in China, the project underscores the Company's firm commitment to deepening its presence in the Chinese market while driving green transformation and the bio-economy, and also serves as a benchmark project for TEDA in deepening foreign investment cooperation and promoting regional industrial upgrading.

The new building of Novonesis is a comprehensive facility integrating modern office spaces, product showcases, and multi-functional conference areas. Its inauguration marks a major upgrade to Novonesis’ operational system in China, which will not only enhance internal collaborative efficiency and revitalize the office environment for employees, but also expand platforms for engagement with external partners, serving as a vital milestone in the Company’s long-term development in China. Meanwhile, the project’s operation will inject robust momentum into the cluster development of TEDA’s biomedical industry, further boosting the region's high-quality economic growth.

During the event, representatives from the Company and government departments engaged in in-depth discussions on the development of the biomanufacturing industry, green transformation, and innovative collaboration. Anders Lund, Chief Operating Officer of Novonesis, stated that China remains one of the world's most important markets. The completion of this project is not only a significant milestone for the Tianjin plant but also a new starting point for the Company to deepen its strategic layout in China and join forces with all parties to drive the bio-economy. As one of Novonesis’ key multi-purpose enzyme production bases globally, the Tianjin plant manufactures over 140 types of products with broad applications. Looking ahead, the Company will continue to expand its production capacity and advance its digital and green transformation, aiming for an approximate 20% increase in capacity by 2027.

Novonesis, formed through the merger of Novozymes (a Danish biotech firm) and Chr. Hansen, operates across three core segments: Food & Beverages, Human Health, and Planetary Health. Since its establishment in 1994, Novonesis Tianjin has been deeply rooted in TEDA for over 30 years, evolving into a regional headquarters that integrates production, supply chain management, and other multifaceted functions for the group in China. In recent years, Novonesis has continuously scaled up its investment in Tianjin. Through initiatives such as production line upgrades, the introduction of innovative product lines, the construction of new facilities, and digital transformation, the Company has consistently bolstered its core competitiveness. This year, it plans to invest hundreds of millions of RMB in Tianjin to optimize processes and renew equipment, further enhancing production intelligence. Notably, the TEDA plant has achieved 100% green electricity consumption since 2019. By consistently implementing green projects focused on energy conservation, emission reduction, and water efficiency, the Company is actively honoring the China-Denmark "dual carbon" commitment and setting a compelling example for green development in TEDA.
