Asian-Pacific R&D Center of Continental AG Starts Building

With the roar of excavators, the Asia-Pacific R&D center of Continental AG built by TEDA Industrial Development Group commenced on August 20.

This is a new R&D center established in Tianjin by Vitesco Technologies, a subsidiary company of Continental AG. In February 2020, Vitesco Technologies signed a relevant agreement with the administrative commission of TEDA. The R&D center is expected to be completed in 2021, and it will become the R&D base of hybrid and electrified powertrain technologies for Vitesco Technologies.

The project is located in the custom factory of TEDA Industrial Development Group, covering an area of approximately 3,000 square meters. The new R&D and production center has a building area of 8,600 square meters, with four floors and a building height of 22.2 meters.

As the construction unit of the project, TEDA Industrial Development Group overcame the unfavorable factors during the epidemic and adopted innovative ways to organize the various participating units of the project to work together and complete many works such as the project approval, geological survey, design, supervision, construction public bidding, planning permit of construction, and construction drawing review.

Li Zhiwen, director of the R&D Center, said, “Tianjin is an important base of production and R&D for the development of Vitesco Technologies in China. During the epidemic this year, thanks to the strong support of the administrative Commitssion of TEDA and TEDA Industrial Development Group, the project, as the first approved project this year during the epidemic in TEDA, progressed rapidly as scheduled, which showed an amazing speed of TEDA construction.”

The R&D center will cover all aspects of systems, software, mechatronics, testing and other fields. Relying on the R&D center, TEDA will create a new highland for new energy technology in the automotive industry and talents.
