TEDA Football Stadium Makes a Heavyweight Comeback

07-12-2023

After a decade, the TEDA Football Stadium, which holds the football memories of the people of Tianjin, is back. On July 21st, Tianjin Jinmen Tiger FC will host Shenzhen FC at its home ground, marking the first official game in the upgraded and renovated TEDA Football Stadium. According to the Chinese Super League and Chinese Football Association Cup schedules, the Jinmen Tiger FC will host three consecutive home games at the stadium in July.

Located at the intersection of Beihai Road and TEDA Avenue in Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area, the TEDA Football Stadium covers an area of over 80,000 square meters. It is the second professional football stadium in China after Shanghai Hongkou Football Stadium and one of Tianjin’s iconic sports buildings as well. It was completed and put into use in April 2004, and the opening ceremony of the inaugural Chinese Super League was held there. From 2004 to 2013, the TEDA Football Stadium hosted a total of 107 Chinese Super League games, 3 Chinese Football Association Cup games, 2 Chinese Super Cup games, and 9 AFC Champions League games.

In accordance with the latest standards of the Asian Football Confederation, the renovation of the stadium mainly focused on upgrading the architecture and facilities. This included the replacement or upgrading of seats, lighting, and giant screens inside the stadium. Additionally, the stadium’s turf now utilizes internationally leading anchoring grass technology, meeting the technical requirements for high-density schedules, high-level matches, and the intensity requirements of international matches above Class A level.
