FAW-Volkswagen’s Two New Car Models to be in Mass Production in TEDA

On April 7, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new car model project transformation of the Tianjin Branch of FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. was held in TEDA. With an investment of approximately 1.7 billion yuan, the transformation project will integrate two new car models of the Audi brand and the Volkswagen brand into the existing production line, increasing the company’s mixed-model production capacity to 7 models. After the transformation, the project will further rejuvenate the automotive industry in TEDA, injecting strong impetus into the intelligent transformation and upgrading of the regional automotive industry. 

Completed and put into production in 2018, the Tianjin Branch of FAW-Volkswagen serves as one of the five major bases of FAW-Volkswagen nationwide. As a production base for mid-to-high-end SUVs, new energy vehicles, and intelligent connected vehicles, the Tianjin Branch of FAW-Volkswagen will continue to deepen the digital-intelligent transformation, strengthen the construction of production line technical capabilities, and simultaneously integrate the regional supply chain to contribute to the high-quality development of the automotive industry in TEDA.

TEDA is a major automotive industry hub in China. In the first quarter of this year, the automotive industry in the area maintained stable growth with an upward trend, producing 164,795 vehicles across three major manufacturers, a 26% year-on-year increase. The output value reached a 21% year-on-year increase, achieving a “good start”. Next, TEDA will speed up the shaping of future industries, drive industrial renewal through scenario-based innovation, and promote the transformation and upgrading of the automotive industry towards new energy and intelligent connected vehicle technologies.
