Tianjin Nangang 1.2 Mln Tons/Year Ethylene Project Begins Production
On November 11, the Sinopec Tianjin Nangang 1.2 Million Tons/Year Ethylene and Downstream High-End New Materials Cluster Project started up successfully, achieved full-process completion, and produced qualified products. The start of operations marks a milestone as Sinopec’s Tianjin base reaches an annual ethylene production capacity of 2.5 million tons, making it one of Sinopec’s largest ethylene production hubs. The project is expected to inject new impetus to hundred-billion-yuan-scale downstream industries, and to shape Tianjin into a national front runner in fine chemicals and new materials sectors.
The Tianjin Nangang Ethylene Project is a key strategic initiative for Tianjin to establish itself as an advanced manufacturing and R&D base, and Sinopec’s world-class refining and chemical base. The project employs cutting-edge technology and innovative design, which include a 1.2 million tons per year ethylene units with downstream units, along with other 12 chemical equipments. It will produce high-end, differentiated new materials and specialty chemicals that will fill domestic gaps. The project also marks the first integrated utilization of ethylene units with LNG cold energy in China, the establishment of Sinopec’s first green power plant at a refining and chemical base and China’s first unmanned smart laboratory in the petrochemical industry.
Going forward, driven by the Tianjin Nangang Ethylene Project, Sinopec Tianjin will leverage the integrated capacity of 16 million tons per year in refining and 2.5 million tons per year in ethylene production. It aims to continuously promote the development of a world-class, high-tech, and integrated base in Tianjin. It will provide strong support for high-quality economic and social development in Tianjin, and contribute to Sinopec’s “one foundation, two wings, and three new” industrial strategy.
