World’s Largest Pilot Plant Project Makes New Progress
Recently, the multifunctional solution polymerization pilot plant at the Tianjin Science and Experiment Base of Sinopec Beijing Chemical Industry Research Institute successfully started up the first attempt and completed the entire process. Independently developed by Beijing Chemical Institute, this facility uses the solution polymerization technology capable of producing a range of new vinyl elastomer products.
Located in TEDA Nangang Industrial Zone, the Tianjin Science and Experiment Base of Sinopec Beijing Chemical Industry Research Institute is an important part of Sinopec’s Nangang high-end new materials industry cluster. It is also Sinopec’s largest scientific research investment project to date, with a total investment of 2.24 billion yuan, being built in two phases. The first phase includes the construction of 14 pilot-scale devices for polyolefin polymerization, polyolefin catalysts, special elastomers, and more. Once completed, the project will be developed into a comprehensive chemical science R&D center, integrating polymer process development, performance material research, high-end chemical preparation, and turnkey technology incubation. It will also become the world’s largest pilot plant for chemical new materials with the most comprehensive research scope. This project, along with Sinopec Engineering Institute’s Oilfield Chemicals Achievement Transformation Center (Tianjin) and the Petrochemical Research Institute’s scientific experiment base, will form a technology R&D hub covering the full oil extraction, refining, and chemical processes in TEDA Nangang Industrial Zone.
