FAW-Volkswagen to Launch Two New NEVs in TEDA

On the morning of June 4th, TEDA Administrative Commission signed a memorandum of understanding on new energy vehicle projects with FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. As stated in the MoU,  FAW-Volkswagen will start producing two NEV models at its Tianjin branch in 2027. The new move will transform the Tianjin factory into a full-product-structure manufacturing base to produce both petrol cars and electric cars on the production line, which will lay a foundation for the subsequent introduction of high-end NEVs. This is another significant strategic layout of FAW-Volkswagen in TEDA following its introduction of three new vehicles with a total investment of 2.3 billion yuan in 2024.

The two new NEVs feature a significant upgrade in intelligent technology, offering enhanced adaptability, stability and safety. They boast clear advantages compared with the car models available in its segment. Upon commissioning, the project will boost the production efficiency of FAW-Volkswagen Tianjin factory and inject new impetus into the high-quality development in TEDA and the growth of NEV and ICV industry in Tianjin.

Since its establishment in TEDA in 2016, FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. Tianjin Branch has developed rapidly, completing the construction of the world’s most advanced factory of FAW-Volkswagen within just 23 months. Up to now, it has successively launched six SUV models of the Tayron series and Audi Q3 series, covering both traditional ICE vehicles and NEVs.  The Tianjin Branch produced 71,100 vehicles in Q1 2025, an increase of 103% year on year.
