North China’s Tianjin Port handled over 5.71 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers in the first quarter of 2025, up 5.6 percent year on year. The port saw its cargo throughput reach 119 million tonnes during the period, up 1.4 percent year on year.
The growth was achieved as the port strives to make green and smart upgrades, according to a statement the port operator. A smart container terminal control system was launched during the quarter to achieve independent and controllable operations and large language models such as DeepSeek and PortGPT achieved in-depth use as artificial intelligence algorithms enhanced the resilience of port operations.
As an important economic indicator, port operations showcase the robustness of China’s production activity and foreign trade, and the ports play a significant role in maintaining the stability of the global supply chain, experts said.
