International students in northern China participated in a series of cultural exchange activities in Tianjin, as the city launched a three-month culture and tourism program over the weekend.

Students from countries including Russia, Vietnam and the Republic of Korea joined events featuring food tastings, cultural presentations and a multicultural market, where they introduced their national cuisines and traditions to local residents.

The program includes a themed walking tour linking several landmarks, such as Tianjin Foreign Studies University and the Five Great Avenues, showcasing the city's blend of historic architecture and urban renewal.

A key highlight was the cultural market, where 18 international students from five countries acted as vendors, promoting cross-cultural exchange.

"I truly enjoyed this bazaar. It offers Chinese people a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture and traditions," said Gao Tuanbaoyu, a student from Vietnam.

Local government officials said the initiative aims to highlight Tianjin's cultural appeal and urban development, while encouraging closer people-to-people ties.

Sun Qian, from the university's School of International Education, said the event helped "narrow the emotional distance" between international students and local residents, adding that it allowed citizens to experience different cultures without leaving the city.
