SINOPEC SABIC (Tianjin) Petrochemical Co., Ltd.

The 260,000 t/a Polycarbonate Project


SINOPEC SABIC (Tianjin) Petrochemical Co., Ltd. is a mega petrochemical enterprise jointly invested by SINOPEC and SABIC on a 50:50 basis. With a total investment of RMB 10.18 billion, the 260,000 t/a polycarbonate project adopts SABIC’s non-phosgene molten polycarbonate technology, which is the first of its kind in China and one of the most advanced one in the world. The project was put into operation in 2022.


PPG

Two Major R&D Centers Starting Construction


The PPG Coatings (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. is PPG’s largest coatings manufacturing base in the world. In 2021, PPG made an additional investment of RMB 550 million to build the PPG Global Coatings Innovation Center in TEDA. As the group’s first coatings innovation center outside the United States, the new center is expected to support the design, development and application of new products and technologies for PPG in China, Asia Pacific and globally. In April 2022, the PPG Tianjin Electric Vehicle and Smart Mobility Innovation and Application Center settled down in TEDA. The successive two strategic R&D moves demonstrate the company’s confidence in the future of TEDA.


Nippon

China Headquarters of Automotive Coatings in TEDA


In July 2021, Nippon China Auto Coatings Eco-Industrial Park started construction in Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone. The project, with a registered capital of 240 million RMB and a total investment of about 960 million RMB, will consist of high-end industrial coatings and coating resins projects, which are expected to be completed and put into operation in September 2023 under the concept of Intelligent Manufacturing Industry 4.0. In November of the same year, TEDA Administrative Commission signed a cooperation agreement with Nippon Paint Investment Co., Ltd., indicating that China headquarters of Nippon Automotive Coatings in TEDA will assume investment, global R&D and general affairs of Nippon Automotive Coatings in China.


Cabot

Formally Acquiring Tokai Carbon’s Tianjin Plant


In February 2022, carbon black giant Cabot announced that it had officially completed the acquisition of Tokai Carbon (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. The merged company is renamed Cabot Advanced Battery Materials (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. and is the only company with “battery” in the company’s name in Cabot’s system. By now, Cabot has three companies in TEDA with a cumulative investment of more than USD 250 million.


Vestas

New Generator Plant Opens


Vestas, a global leader in onshore wind power, built its Tianjin production base in 2005 in TEDA and has continued to promote its growth. The year of 2021 saw the completion of a new Vestas generator plant in TEDA as well as the launch of a new 6MW motor, the largest single-power model onshore in China. With the commissioning of the new plant, Vestas now owns two generator plants in its Tianjin production base.


KCC

Automotive Paint Project in Operation


KCC (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of KCC Inc, Korea’s largest coatings and building materials manufacturer. In July 2021, KCC’s automotive paint project was successfully put into production in Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone. As the Investment Cooperation Agreement indicates, the project becomes the largest industrial paint production base of KCC in China upon completion.


Nouryon

Nouryon Starting Production at its World’s Largest Organic Peroxide Plant


In November 2022, Nouryon held a ceremony to announce the full production of its world-class innovative organic peroxide manufacturing site in Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone. With a total site area of 140,000 square meters, it consists of three production facilities with a designated capacity of 40,000 tons per year to produce various types of peroxides that will meet the demand of the packaging, paints and coatings, and construction industries in Asia.


INEOS

Joining in the Construction of Tianjin Nangang Ethylene Project


At the end of 2022, Sinopec signed a cooperation agreement to join INEOS in the 1.2 million tons/year Tianjin Nangang ethylene and its downstream derivative project built by Sinopec, with each holding 50% of the shares. The agreement is an important part of the proposed integrated cooperation between the two parties in Tianjin. INEOS is a global manufacturer of petrochemicals, specialty chemicals and petroleum products, with 36 business segments and 194 production sites in 29 countries worldwide.
