Main Plant Area of Tianjin Samsung Electro-Mechanics Passes Acceptance Check

On August 5, 2020, six buildings of the MLCC Binhai Phase III Expansion Project of Tianjin Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co., Ltd., including Factory Building 1, raw material warehouse, chemical warehouse, equipment room, generator room and substation, and with total area of 186,000 square meters, successfully passed the construction quality completion acceptance under the supervision of TEDA construction management center.

This project, located in TEDA West, has a total coverage of 206,000 square meters and a total construction area of 263,000 square meters. The plant area consists of more than 20 buildings such as the main buildings (factory buildings), equipment room, raw material warehouse, and packaging buildings. It is a modern electronics plant with high production capacity and high output value using internationally advanced equipment and first-class production technology. The project adopts the EPC general contract model strongly recommended by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, namely integrated general contracting of engineering, procurement, and construction. The project management is jointly completed by the project management experts from China and South Korea, who perfectly integrate the management ideas and experience from China and Korea. The successful acceptance check of the project of this phase has also become a strong proof of the successful cooperation between the two parties.

Tianjin Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co., Ltd., the project investor, was established in 1993, and has become an internationally influential multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) manufacturer and industrial leader after 27 years of development. It is engaged in research, development, production and sale of motor for computer CD driver, surface acoustic filter, laser diodes and other products. The MLCC project has greatly promoted the development of upstream and downstream industries, and made considerable contributions to the economic construction and industrial integrity of Tianjin. The third-phase capacity expansion project seized the favorable opportunity of the encouraged upgrading of high-tech industries in China, and received great attention from the headquarters of Samsung Electro-Mechanics in Korea. After the completion of the plant, MLCC products will have some shares in the field of new electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles, and become an important source of incomes of Samsung Group.

As a key project in Tianjin and Binhai New Area, the project established the strategy of “safety is the first benefit” at the beginning of construction, and achieved the goal of zero accidents from the groundbreaking of the project in August 2018 to the completion acceptance of the main plant area. In January of this year, the construction was suspended due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic. In order to ensure the on-schedule completion of the project, the construction was comprehensively resumed on April 13 with the full assistance and support of TEDA Administrative Commission, on the premise of implementation of adequate epidemic prevention and control measures, and after active efforts in promotion.

The acceptance of the main plant in the third phase of the project is a result of the collaborative efforts of all parties involved in the construction. It has given full play to the technological advantages of China’s infrastructure building, laid a solid foundation for the rapid operation of the project, and made remarkable contribution to the high-quality development of Tianjin and Binhai New Area.
