China’s Largest LNG Carrier Unloaded at TEDA Nangang

On January 7, the Tianjin LNG Receiving Terminal of Sinopec Natural Gas Company in TEDA Nangang Industrial Zone successfully unloaded the “Greenergy Ocean”, China’s largest LNG carrier. Independently developed, designed, and built in China, the “Greenergy Ocean” ship is the world-first fifth-generation large-scale LNG carrier, with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas. This volume is sufficient to meet the gas needs of approximately 7 million households for one month. Since the start of the 2024–2025 heating season, the Tianjin LNG Receiving Terminal has unloaded 14 LNG carriers and supplied 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the grid. This output is enough to meet the six-month gas needs of 13 million households, providing a solid foundation for ensuring winter gas supplies in North China.

The successful docking and unloading of the “Greenergy Ocean” demonstrate the terminal’s advanced unloading capabilities and emergency response readiness. To ensure a smooth process, the Tianjin LNG Receiving Terminal strictly adhered to a “one ship, one plan” approach, working closely with maritime authorities, customs, and border inspection departments. A dedicated service team was established, and unloading plans were developed in advance. The terminal ensured 24/7 operations of its facilities and equipment, maximizing unloading efficiency while maintaining safety and environmental protection standards throughout the process.
